The Faculty of Islamic Studies (FIS) at Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII) officially welcomed its new students through the Academic Convocation and Students Orientation Week 2025, held on 18–19 September 2025 at the UIII campus in Depok. This annual program serves as an important tradition of the Faculty, designed to introduce new students to the academic vision, culture, and community of UIII while preparing them for the journey ahead.

The first day of the orientation began with a warm introduction from the committee, followed by welcoming remarks from Prof. Yanwar Pribadi, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies. In his address, the Dean emphasized the importance of academic integrity, intellectual curiosity, and ethical responsibility, reminding students that their academic journey at UIII is not only about obtaining a degree but also about contributing meaningfully to the advancement of Islamic and global scholarship.

Throughout the day, new students were introduced to the Faculty’s lecturers and staff as well as the academic programs offered, including the MA in Islamic Studies, the MA in Dirasat al-Turath al-Islami, and the PhD in Islamic Studies. The sessions also covered the academic environment, faculty activities, and research opportunities, while highlighting the role of initiatives such as the Islamic Studies Review and the International Graduate Conference. In addition, students received guidance on administrative support and campus facilities, ensuring they are well prepared to navigate university life.

After a short break, the afternoon sessions shifted toward a deeper academic orientation. Students joined breakout discussions on curriculum structure, academic milestones, and their rights and responsibilities as members of the university community. This was followed by sessions on academic ethics, including the challenges of artificial intelligence and plagiarism, as well as cultural awareness, climate, and the importance of preventing sexual harassment and abuse. The day closed with a communal dinner, providing an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to interact in a more informal setting and strengthen their sense of belonging.

The second day of the orientation was organized in collaboration with the Islamic Studies Student Association (ISSA). The program opened with a welcoming speech by the ISSA President, who introduced the role of the association in representing and supporting students throughout their studies. This was followed by a sharing session where current MA and PhD students, along with alumni, shared their academic journeys, offering valuable perspectives and practical advice to the new cohort. The day concluded with a campus tour, which allowed students to explore their academic environment directly and familiarize themselves with the facilities and resources available at UIII.

By the end of the two-day orientation, students had gained not only essential knowledge about the Faculty’s academic vision and environment but also a strong sense of community and purpose. The Academic Convocation and Students Orientation Week 2025 reflected the Faculty’s commitment to nurturing a new generation of scholars who are rooted in Islamic traditions while engaging critically with global academic discourses. The Faculty of Islamic Studies looks forward to accompanying its students on this transformative academic journey, supporting their growth both intellectually and personally.
