Depok, 27 August 2025 – The Faculty of Islamic Studies (FIS) at Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII) proudly marked a milestone with its third commencement ceremony, honoring the accomplishments of 55 graduates who have successfully completed their studies.
This year’s graduating cohort reflects the diversity and international reach of UIII, consisting of 18 students from the MA in Islamic Studies (Regular), 14 students from the Dual Degree program — including eight in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh and six with SOAS University of London — and 23 students from the MA in Takhassus (Classical Islam).
In his address, Prof. Jamhari, Rector of UIII, extended his congratulations and highlighted the broader meaning of the day’s celebration. “Today is not only a celebration of academic success but also a testimony to the international spirit of UIII. Our graduates carry with them the mission to contribute positively to their societies and to the global community. UIII stands as a bridge between Indonesia and the world, and you are the ambassadors of that mission.”
Best Thesis Award: Md. Mahdi Hasan
One of the most inspiring moments of the ceremony was the recognition of Md. Mahdi Hasan from Bangladesh, who received the Best Thesis Award.
Hasan’s academic journey at UIII was shaped by both personal hardship and triumph. Speaking with gratitude, he admitted that he never considered himself the most gifted, but rather someone strengthened by the support of his teachers and peers.
“When I first arrived, I had no academic background in English and felt lost in the beginning. What helped me persevere was the dedication of my lecturers, the guidance of my supervisors, and the encouragement of my friends,” Hasan reflected.
His voice broke with emotion as he dedicated the award:
“During my two years here, I lost my father and could not be at his funeral, while my wife was expecting our child back home. From those painful moments came joy, and I dedicate this achievement to my late father, my mother, my wife, and my beloved daughter.”
Best Graduate: Hantrini Rolistiani
The ceremony also celebrated Hantrini Rolistiani, who graduated with a perfect GPA of 4.00 from the MA program in Islamic Studies (Classical Islam), earning her the title of Best Graduate of UIII’s third commencement.
Representing the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Hantrini underscored the transformative role of UIII in fostering globally minded scholars. Drawing on a classical text, she cited a passage from Ahmad al-Dardiri’s al-Kharida al-Bahiyya, which describes a creed “small in size, yet great in knowledge.”
She drew a parallel with UIII itself, remarking: “Although still young, UIII has already become a melting pot for scholars and academics from across the world — a space for intellectual exchange, research, and personal growth.”
The 2025 commencement ceremony highlighted the Faculty of Islamic Studies’ unwavering commitment to academic excellence and intellectual exchange. By fostering rigorous scholarship, nurturing resilient graduates, and encouraging meaningful contributions to society, FIS UIII continues to strengthen its role as a hub for advancing knowledge and shaping future leaders on both local and global levels.
