He earned both his Master’s degree and Ph.D. in Qur’anic exegesis (Tafsir) from Ankara University, Graduate School of Social Sciences, where he specialized in the Department of Tafsir. Prior to joining UIII, he served as a visiting lecturer at Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University of Yogyakarta, contributing to both the Postgraduate Program and the Faculty of Ushuluddin. His academic formation reflects a strong specialization in Qur’anic exegesis and Islamic intellectual traditions, particularly within the Ottoman scholarly context.

Dr. Abdillah is the author of Muḳatil b. Süleyman Tefsirinin İsrāiliyyāt Açısından İncelenmesi (MA Thesis, 2017) and Ebussuûd Tefsirini Sosyokültürel Bağlamında Okumak (PhD Dissertation, 2022). He has also contributed to edited volumes, including “Muḳâtil b. Süleyman Tefsirinde İsrâiliyâta Dair Rivayetler” in Kur’an ve Yorumu – İlk Üç Yüzyıl.

His scholarly publications also address contemporary issues at the intersection of Islam, law, and politics. His research interests include Qur’anic hermeneutics, classical and post-classical tafsir traditions, Ottoman intellectual history—particularly the sixteenth century—intertextual studies of the Qur’an, and broader Islamic thought. Furthermore, he has presented his research at various international academic forums in Turkey, Germany, Albania, and Indonesia, including conferences on Qur’anic studies, Ottoman scholarship, and contemporary Islamic discourse. His work demonstrates a sustained engagement in bridging classical Islamic scholarship with contemporary critical and interdisciplinary approaches.
